Ossory Butler's Magical Mystery Tour

After visiting Inistioge, the tour made its way to Kilkenny, the ancestral home of the Butler clan and described as Ireland's loveliest inland city. The Anglo-Norman Butler family came to power in the 1390s and held sway over the city for more than 500 years. Kilkenny Castle was built in the 1190s and was occupied by the Butlers until 1935 when it was given to the nation.

Unfortunately, we were to be disappointed in our expectation that Oz would be recognised as the long-lost legitimate heir to the castle.

The castle and castle grounds were fairly impressive and the view out over the expanse of parkland was particularly fine.

And thus ended our Magical Mystery Tour. After another very comfortable night at Grove Farm it was back to Dublin for the flight home. All in all, it was a terrific trip, exceedingly well organised by Ms Penelope Playchute and enjoyed by all.
